Disability Awareness Advert and Evaluation

Evaluation:

My group was me, Dan, Bobby and Niamh. We were given the task to create an advert on disability awareness, and aim it at our target audience who we chose was teenagers and young adults as we wanted to raise awareness in schools about disabilities to make more people understanding of people with disabilities. The advert we created was to raise awareness to the charity Scope which is a charity that supports people with disabilities and their carers and families. The reason we chose Scope was because they target every kind of disability and people of any age which would make it more relatable to our target audience and a wider audience who would see the advert. We tried to make the advert inspirational and heart felt, but also using bright happy colours to get the attention of the viewers.

I worked with Dan, Bobby and Niamh. We decided that I would film the footage, with the others helping by arranging the props and students. We then spoke to Mr Johnson and the resource base for the hearing impaired students and found out who wanted to feature in our advert. Me and Niamh planned the advert together onto a story board, and Dan and Bobby did the research into the charity and other examples of disability awareness adverts. Me and Dan did the majority of the editing onto premier, to create the final advert.

The research that we did to start with was to research a range of charities who support people with disabilities but in the end we chose Scope as they are not for a specific disability making it more general and more relatable. To plan the sequence we created the story board. We did this by watching other disability awareness adverts to get ideas, we then chose the music and the type of camera shots we wanted to use.
Charities:
Scope -

'Scope is a charity that exists to make this country a place where disabled people have the same opportunities as everyone else. Until then, we’ll be here.'

My initial feedback of the advert was that it was a good construction and was put together well however the use of the green screen could have been done better i.e. it could have been smoother and more fitted to the camera screen. Other people agreed to an extent that although the ideas were good and the sequence went well together, it could have been better quality filming and use of props. Overall I think our sequence was very successful as it was the first time we used the green screen, and we all agreed on the ideas straight away making it easy to create the story board at the beginning of the project which then meant we could begin filming as soon as it was possible.

The things that I think went well, were the planning of the advert as we all agreed on the ideas that had been suggested, making it easy to create the story board and begin the planning time table. I also think the final advert is successful due to the editing. In hindsight I would be more organised and would plan earlier when to get the interviews from the participants so that we would have longer to film. I would also do the green screen filming in a better environment as the wind inside made it difficult to film and it was creased.

From completing this task I have learnt skills such as how to edit the green screen on premier, and also how to properly edit things such as the sound, the shot and the timings. I have also learnt communication is very important as this would have helped us complete the advert in faster time. During the filming, it became clear that compromise is very important when what you want is not always easy or possible. I think each group should have a range of people e.g. a good editor, a good filmer, someone who will plan and direct so that things will be done to the best it can be and someone who is confident to be a key part in the video. As if you have a good editor they will be the person who makes the final sequence as good as it can be if the filming doesn't always go to plan, and in this construction my group had a good team of editors.

Looking ahead, the things I have learnt from this production will be important as it means that I will choose the group that fits my needs and will help me to accomplish the best production possible. This learning will also be significant as now I have skills in premier i can use in future productions.
